«In the context of a research project carried out in 1992 by request of the Regional Director for Cultural Affairs, Manuela Aranha, to study the varied pipe organs preserved on the Island of Madeira, thirty-one instruments of this kind were found to exist, distributed among churches of the entire Autonomous Region. Bearing in mind the results of this research, carried out by Dinarte Machado and recorded at the time in Levantamento Geral dos Órgãos de Tubos da Madeira (General Survey of the Pipe Organs of Madeira), it was desirable to make these instruments known through the publication of the information gathered. »
